The cicadas have reached the flying-around and, I assume, mating phase. They have moved from the big trees in my front yard to the small trees nearer my house, on which they gather and swarm in large numbers. This video shows you how dense they are, and how intense their noise is.
that is crazy! I heard a few days ago that their was an earthquake near you all... something like a 4.2.. did you feel that? Crazy land you have moved to.
ReplyDeleteWow. I've never seen them gathered so densely. Even when I've noticably heard them, I've never been able (or maybe just never looked closely enough) to see them I figured they were up higher in the branches. That's neat.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who finds that kind of horrifying?
ReplyDeleteI mean' I love the noise they make as long as I can't see the SWARMS OF LARGE, FLYING INSECTS.
Oh no, I find it horrifying too. Craig thinks the cicadas are a wonderful phenomenon of nature, he kept saving them from the water when we went swimming today. I just want them to go away!
ReplyDeleteOne flew inside my shirt while I was taking my laundry in and I ran around like a maniac for a minute before dashing into the garage to undress and get it off of me as fast as possible.
I would rather deal with earthquakes (but no, I didn't feel it although some of Craig's co-workers did).
Oh, and I forgot to mention that they are now dying. Dead cicadas in the baby pool, dead cicadas on the sidewalk up to the veggies, everywhere. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteewwww! There's so many and they're so big. Yuck.
