James!

I've almost got it! Back in March I started memorizing the book of James. It's taken quite a bit of time but I've almost got it. I say almost because I can recite each book individually with maybe 3-4 "cheats" to get me restarted when I'm stuck on a word or phrase. I do better when I'm not interrupted by little people - which isn't a problem with them, it just shows me I need to not rely on momentum as much. But I'm definitely getting there. And while I've been memorizing, I've also been slowly studying it using the SOAP method and am almost done with that too.

I'm moving on to other verses for my Siesta memory work but will continue to practice James daily until I have it down. I picked a short verse for this period but I think I want to start another longer passage again. I really like the memorization/SOAP combination. Now I'm just trying to come with what passage. Proverbs 31 is one option. A little cliche maybe but it is really good stuff so there is a reason women like it so much.  What about you? Any good passage you've read/studied/memorized lately that you think might be calling my name?

  1. Nice work! Very impressive! I've not heard of the SOAP method, but maybe you explained it in a previous post and I missed it??

I've memorized Ephesians 3:14-21 before. Also, Philippians 4:4-9 is a good one as well. Not long passages, but just throwing that out there for you! Keep up the good work.

  2. Oh, I meant to link to a description of the SOAP method. I'll try to find one soon and update that. It was really helped in "weaning" me from fill in the blank bible studies to self studying God's word.

  3. I added it to the post too but here is a good description of SOAP. It's simply but effective.
