Quick Question for y'all

Does anyone know the best way to clean mini-blinds? That is one of my least favorite move-out tasks. I spend tons of time on such a little thing and they never even look clean afterward.

So what's the secret? Vacuum with attachment (Thanks to Craig's parent, we know have one of those!), dry rag, soapy rag, some secret hint revealed in a women's magazine that I somehow missed but everyone knows but me?

HELP!

  1. I've never done it, but my mom usually takes them down and soaks them in the bathtub.

  2. I usually forget that part when moving out, but I have wiped them down with a damp cloth and found that to work fairly well. Another trick is to use a swiffer sheet or a dryer sheet. (I find that if I do that first and then follow with the damp cloth, it works best, because the dryer sheet doesn't get everything)

  3. I have heard the bathtub is effective...slosh them around in warm water. I have also just closed them all one way and dusted with a feather duster (I suppose a dry rag would work, too), and then turn them all closed the other way to get the other side. This method doesn't get them completely clean, but it's better than nothing (and you don't have to wait for them to dry from the bathtub). It's SCA Kristen, by the way...happy moving!

  4. Buy new blinds... lol... I have these micro-something washclothes that work better than anything else I've tried (other than purchasing new blinds). I agree with you, cleaning blinds is a total pain. My least favorite part of the move-out clean up.

  5. I just remembered--my mom used to have a mini-blind cleaner. It had a handle and like 5 slats with fuzz on them. You stuck it in the blinds, slid it across (until the rope stops you), and then repeat. Isn't there also a new Swiffer product for mini-blinds? I think I've seen a commercial recently. Good luck.

  6. Thanks for the advice everyone. I still haven't gotten to them yet but I have cleaned the fridge, freezer, stove (including those stupid burner pans!, tub, toilet and light fixtures! I'm down to just the surfaces - walls, windows, counters, floors. I think I get it all done tomorrow. Well, I'd better be able to since we check out Tuesday morning!
