Craig had to work yesterday so I didn't really have anything planned for Independence Day but on July 3rd, that changed.
Lucy: Is Jonah one?
Me: No, he' still zero. He hasn't had any birthdays.
L: What hour is his birthday?
M: You mean what month? September.
L: And we will have cake.
M: Yes.
L: Decorated with bunnies and flowers?
M: Well, we'll have to see about that part...Hey, did you know that tomorrow is actually USA's birthday?
L: What? What!? And we aren't making a cake!? We aren't going to celebrate!?
That's what I get for trying to change the subject. So we made a dessert. A red, white and blue fruit pizza because its berry season around here. And then I took it to the next level (note sarcasm) and gave her red and blue window crayons to decorate our big bay window. I drew stars, flags and fireworks. She drew cake and a tomb with Jesus inside. And by the end of the day, we had sung happy birthday at least 3 times.
And that, my friends, is how we do patriotism around here.
