The things they say

I've been so bad about these but Norah has started talking a ton lately and she cracks us up.

Me: I love you, Norah, goodnight.
Norah: I love...
Me: pauses before walking out the door
Norah:...mine band-aid.

Well, good to know.

~~~
Another day I hear her in her room, not napping like see was supposed to be but I couldn't get upset because she was naming all the people she loved, then all the people who loved her, then all the people in our family and the other people they loved. It was very methodical. I wuf mommy, I wuf daddy, i wuf jojo, I wuf noona. Noona loves me....all the way to Noona loves the piggies, Noona loves the puppy, Noona loves the chickens.
~~~~

So is so sneaky! But also really bad at being sneaky!

I'm cooking and she comes up to look, then takes my phone, climbes down from the stool and walks away.

Me: Norah, what are you doing.
Norah: I'm hiding so I watch your phone.

Then I watch her go into the living room, climb up into the bay window and close the curtain so she's blocked. A few seconds later I hear baby nursery rhyme songs start to play - loudly. So even if her not so subtle hiding had worked, I think the fact that "5 little monkeys was blasting through the house" might have given her away.

~~~~
She may also have found some easter candy lying around, hid in her room and come out with tootsie roll on her face and hands saying "I found candy. I sticky" When I acted duly surprised and shocked that she ate it without permission, she smiles and says "But I eat it all up now. All gone!" I guess she didn't mind telling me once it was too late to take away!
~~~~

Hiking, just me with the kids and the puppy. Half way through the walk, she found a stick and was so happy -  then it broke. I could tell both Lucy and I were holding our breathe because we knew I couldn't carry her and hold the puppy's leash so it could have been a disaster. Norah looks upset for a second, says "oh no, oh no, my stick boke" then calms down, picks up both pieces and says so joyously "I has two sticks!"

A similar situation with a broken banana did not end so happily but at least we were home so I could just let her cry it out for a bit.

~~~
Lucy asked Norah what 1+1 was and was so excited when she said 2. That may or may not have been a total coincidence, I wouldn't be surprised either way. But then Jonah started quizing her. She put up with it when it was things like "Norah, can you count to 10?" but when he advanced to "Norah, what is 2 less than 18?" and "What is two groups of 4?" she decided enough was enough. She gave him a stern look, said "I is just a baby!" and walked away. She may be the youngest child at our church, the youngest in our neighbor gang of kids that always plays together (at least until Neighbor J's actual baby is old enough to join in) and in general, just the little tag-along, but I don't need to worry about her sticking up for herself!
They things they say
Me: Don't put your trains on Norah's head. She doesn't like it.
Jonah: But Norah Jane rhymes with train!
Me: That is true. But you still can't run them on her head.
Watching the Olympics gets more fun as the kids get older...
Lucy: Who is this?
Craig: USA vs. Canada.
Lucy: Oh, so do we hate the Canadas?
Lucy: If there is no USA in a race,  I vote for England because they are the closest to us from in the past, you know, back then we were like them before we fought them.
Jonah: Yay! He knocked down the stick.
Me: Well, in this jump they are trying to NOT knock down the stick.
Jonah: Oh, he's not gonna win then.
Lucy: Are you sure they are running? I think the camera is just moving.
Me: I'm pretty sure they are running fast.
Lucy: Hmm, I'm not so sure.
Jonah, playing trains and peg dolls. Screech! Screech! Ahh!
Me: Can you be a bit quieter? Norah's sleeping and even if she wasn't, that screeching noise isn't very pleasant to my ears.
Jonah: Okay.
Jonah, as a peg doll: Oh, you like your daddy better than your mommy? Me too!
Hmm, passive-aggressive doll play. How lovely! At least it isn't a  tantrum.
Lucy has been requesting a lot of Scottish folk songs lately, mostly Peter Hollen's Loch Lomond but sometimes The Parting Glass (or maybe that's actually Irish? Don't tell her if it is) and the Brave soundtrack. So when I spotted Celtic Woman at the library I was pretty sure she'd like it. At first she was skeptical because I told her they were Irish and "Well, that's not exactly the same as Scottish mom and I really like Scottish songs the best" but I told her to give it a chance. I turn it on and look back at her and her eyes are wide open before she asked "Can we buy this so we can have it and listen to it all the time and never have to give it back! Like a hundred times!" The cd I got came with a dvd show as well so I thought I'd save that for a "We finished exam week!" treat.
We've all been enjoying Peter Hollen's work, mostly just listening on spotify but during our weekly tea time I'll let them watch some on youtube as well. Jonah's tastes are not quite as refined; his favorite song is Still Alive. I do find it ironic that my screen limited child's favorite request is a youtube star's cover of a video game theme song. He doesn't even know what a video game is! But cake throwing is always fun and the song is quite catchy.
The things they say
Jonah: Look mom! If I need to wipe my nose, I don't have to go get a Kleenex, I can just use this (wipes nose on arm)
Watching While You Were Sleeping with the kids in the room. Lucy actually watched it, Jonah did not, except for one scene. I bet you can guess which one it is.
Jonah: I am not wearing black underwear! I am not wearing black underwear! That's true (pulls down pants), my undies have puppies on them.
Lucy: Lucy?
Craig: Yes, her name is Lucy.
Me: Its even Lucy Elinor
Lucy: Lucy Elinor? Like me?!
What are the odds ;-)
Jonah's starting calling Norah Jane "little one". I love it!
Jonah: Hi, my little one. Are you having fun with your little brother?
Me: But Jonah,  you're her big brother.
Jonah: Oh yeah! Hi my little one, are you having fun with your big brother?
Me: Time for thank you notes!
Lucy: I am going to draw a picture of my scooter and say thank you for my scooter, I love how it is pink because that is my favorite color.
Jonah: I am going to draw a picture of a rhino and say I love rhinos.
Lucy: But nobody got you a rhino.
Jonah: So?
Lucy: You're supposed to write about things to be thankful for them.
Jonah: Oh, but I want to draw a rhino.
Norah smiles a bunch. I grab my phone and try to get a picture. She stops smiling. I put the phone down, she stars again.
Me: You little stinker. Oh well, you're my stinker so that's okay.
Jonah: She's my stinker too!
Lucy: And mine! Not just yours mom!
Jonah: Yeah, she's everyone's stinker!
The Things They Say
Jonah, playing with his playdough creature and having it pretend to eat me....I'm a poisonous snake. I'm going to poisonous you!
Jonah: Can I have a tortilla chip?
Me: One for now, you can have more with dinner in a few minutes
Jonah: That's not enough
Me: You get what you get.
Jonah: How 'bout 5?
Me: silence
Jonah: How 'bout 2?
Me: silence
Jonah: Okay. (Breaks it in half). Now I have two!
When Classics meet K-dramas:
Jonah: Would you read to me?
Lucy: Okay, I'll read you this one (St. George and the Dragon - and by read she means look at the pictures and tell the story). Once upon a time, there was a brave knight named St. George and he was traveling with the beautiful princess Noona. (Name of the Princess should be Una. Noona is the name for big sister in Korean :-)
Lucy: Look at another way I can make a 1! I can push all my other fingers down and leave just the middle one up and that's 1! (We've been working on ordinal numbers and she really likes the middle finger now that she realized its the third from the left AND the third from the right! I just can't bring myself to burst her little middle finger loving self with any news of its impoliteness)
Craig: Look Jonah, you got a birthday card in the mail.
Jonah: Oh, thank you daddy!
Craig: Well, it's from great-grandma, I just brought it up from the mailbox
Jonah: Oh, thank you daddy for bringing it up from the mailbox for me!
Lucy has recently started American Heritage Girls and on those nights she doesn't come home until after Jonah's asleep (or supposed to be). It didn't take long to realize that her being in the bunk above him was a big stabilizing factor in terms of keeping him in bed until he falls asleep.
Me: Okay, you're all nice and tucked. Now go to sleep
5 minutes later Jonah walks into my room. He doesn't say anything, just stands there looking at me.
Me: Why are you out of bed?
Jonah: Well...I needed you to tuck me in again because I got out of bed.
It is no secret to those that knew my mother that I am definitely her daughter, in many ways. But even so, I still get caught off guard with certain situations that seem eerily familiar. A few days ago I had a rough night (as in, lots of contractions that did not end with the birth of a baby) so I slept in a bit and instead of making a nice heart breakfast of eggs or oatmeal or pumpkin pancakes like I had every other day that week, the kids got frozen waffles from Trader Joes. Their response:
Jonah: Thank you for this breakfast mommy. I really like it.
Lucy: Yes, this is a wonderful breakfast. So delicious!
At least no one has asked for sugary cereal for a Christmas present - yet. But that's only because they probably haven't though of it.
Lucy only has a few words she still consistently mispeaks or words she misuses and I'm missing them as they go away. Two that remain are
livering room = living room
orders = directions (east, west, etc) She'll ask me "what order are we driving now? North?"
Jonah's got more but my favorite is bowl-a-bar for granola bar.
Me: Okay guys, it's tea time!
Lucy: Yay! Tea time!
Jonah: I want tea that's milk and chocolate
Lucy: Uhm, Jonah, I think that's really hot cocoa, not tea.
Jonah: No, it's tea. Tea that's milk and chocolate!
The Things They Say
Lucy and Jonah are looking at scrapbooks:
Lucy: This is mama's wedding. See, she's got a bride dress on.
Jonah: Oh, look. Daddy was at mama's wedding.
Lucy: Yes. I know. He was the person who married mama.
Jonah: But I want to marry mama
Lucy: You can't, she's already married!
Jonah: To who?
Lucy: Daddy!
Lucy's song (luckily she was going in the afternoon)
Going to Costco in the morning is not fun. Going to Costco in the morning is NOT fun. Going to Costco in the afternoon IS fun because there are lots of samples. But not in the morning so its not fun.
I hear Jonah get up, say "it's morning, I'm going to play" and head to the living room to play.
Lucy (barging in): Mama! Do you know why I always wake up at the same time as Jonah? Because he WAKES me up. (climbs over me to get into my bed). I don't like it at all!
Me: I could see how that would be annoying. I don't think she quite caught the tone in which I said that.
Jonah: I'm ready to get out of the bath
Me: I have to wash you first
Jonah: No, I don't want that.
Me: Too bad, mommy's decision
Jonah: Then I will pee in the bathtub!
Lately Lucy's been interesting in being a grown-up and has taken to telling me all the things she will do when she gets old enough. Most of the time her tone is merely informative, not rebellious. Her list so far includes:
  • Getting a motorcycle.
  • Getting a convertible.
  • Getting a tattoo of a princess and a unicorn in rainbow colors that covers her whole arm.
  • Washing her child's hair with water from a teapot and not water from a cup. (This one was said a bit rebelliously)
  • Wearing tennis shoes and not sandals with her church dress.
  • Eating two slices of cinnamon toast in the morning before finishing her eggs.
At that last statement, said at our kitchen table a few days ago, Jonah had to pipe in with one of his own....eating TWO spoonfuls of cod liver oil a day. And yes, he really does love his clo that much but I still only let him have one spoonful a day. I think it's obvious that I'm a mean mom, don't you think?
The things they say - Poetry and Potty Talk Edition
Me: Lucy, do you want to do a reading lesson now? I'm done with the dishes.
Lucy: Yes, well, I want to play this though.
Me: You can play instead, that's okay.
Lucy: No, I want to do a reading lesson but let's pretend that you are the teacher and I am the kid who is being homeschooled and you are teaching me about reading. It will be fun.
Me: I think I can do that
Jonah, Lucy and I are all snuggled in bed one morning.
Lucy: I'm being smooshed. I only have as much room as a Zebra stripe!"
For Background: We live next door to a car repair shop which I shall call "Bob's Car Shop" (note to creepy stalker people, it's not actually called Bob's Car Shop so no need to google).
Lucy: What's that?
Me: It's a tow truck.
Lucy: It takes broken cars away right?
Me: Right, that car must not be working right now.
Lucy: Oh my, they had better get that car to Bob's Car Shop!"
I posted that on their local page and they all got a kick out it.
Reading Lucy a birthday message which ended, Love, Aunt Steph
Lucy: Love Aunt Steph? I already do!
I had to explain that the card wasn't really meaning to be bossy :-)
I know we do things a little differently, but it still sometimes hits me sometimes. This conversation happened while we were camping in the yurt.
Lucy: What will we do if it rains?
Me: Go inside the yurt and play or look at books.
Lucy: Or watch something?
Me: Well, we didn't bring the computer
Lucy: But there is one of those things that you can watch shows but you can't pick what is on like in a hotel (she's referring to a tv)
Me: I don't think so
Lucy: Yes, right over the fridge!
Me: That's a microwave
Lucy: What's a microwave?
To be fair, she does know what a tv is, she just can't ever remember what its called. But she had no clue what a microwave was and I had to take a couple minutes to explain it. We don't have one but I guess I didn't realize that neither do any of the other homes she frequents. Maybe we'll find a neat science experiment for our next trip to the Grandparents, like blowing up soap or something.
We've been getting a lot of rain lately which apparently brought up Lucy's inner poet.
Today, today
The sky is gray
Rainy weather's on its way
And then there's Jonah, who was supposed to be taking a nap when I overheard this.
Jonah: "I'm going to say potty talk now". Pauses..."Potty talk! Potty talk! Potty talk! Am I in trouble? No!"
I guess he found a workaround for the "No potty talk" rule.
The things they say
We've been working on asking mom, not telling mom, to do things. It's a work in progress. But it kinda explains this conversations:
Me: Lucy, here is your rag, go wipe off the table now (that's her table chore).
Lucy: Uhm, that was telling me! Not asking me!
Me: Yep, I'm the mommy. I get to do the telling.
Lucy: oh
Another late night Jonah conversation. He gets more and more hilarious as we get farther past bedtime. If only I was in the mood to appreciate it at 9:45pm.
Jonah: Mommy, why are we here in bed?
Me:   Because its time to sleep.
Jonah: No, no, no. Why do we need to sleep?
Me: So we can have energy for playing. Our bodies need sleep so we aren't tired and cranky tomorrow.
Jonah: But why?
Me: Because that's how God made our bodies. So go to sleep!
Jonah: Why do we need to eat? Because God made tummies?
I'm lying down next to Jonah in his bed. It's a twin. We are sharing a pillow.
Jonah: Mommy, we aren't close enough.
Me: We are right next to each other. Can't you feel my arm next to yours? (While thinking we can't possible be closer than we are right now)
Jonah: No, you put your arm on my back and I'll put my arm around your neck. Now we are close. This is better.
A few days later
Jonah: Do you like me? Do you love me?
Me: Yes, I like you and I love you!
Jonah: They why are you so faarrr away.
Me: I'm right here.
Jonah: Your face is away.
Me: Well, I have a cold and I'm coughing a lot so I want to keep my germs on this side. But you can snuggle up right against my back.
Jonah: Okay, but I like you and I love you so I will sleep here and put my finger in your ear. (And he laid there with his finger in my ear!)
Kids playing outside with Craig...
Jonah: Mommy! I need a cup! I found nature!
A couple minutes pass
Lucy: Mommy! Jonah dropped a birdy egg in his cup and it broke and now the baby bird will never live again!
Lucy: Can we have popsicles?
Me: Yes, but we only have a few flavors left so no complaining. I hand her a banana flavored popsicle.
Lucy: This is banana? It's a little...looks at me...interesting.
Me: How is your snack.
Lucy: Oh, it is divine! (Note: It was not a banana flavored popsicle :-)
The things they say - Christmas edition
The kids playing doctor together. Lucy is sick and Jonah is the doctor.
Jonah: (Holds up a wise man).
Lucy: I don't see how that's going to help me
Jonah: Oh, I be right back. (Runs and gets a purse with a necklace and headband.)
Lucy: No, that's won't help either. Go get something else.
Jonah: Oh, okay. I be right back...repeat 10X
Lucy: Can I have some of that stuff on my bread?
Me: Nutella, sure.
Lucy: Well, we got it a couple days ago so I don't think you should call it new-tella, just tella.
Me: No, its not because its new. That's just the name - Nutella.
Lucy: I call it Tella.
Me: Okay, but its name is Nutella.
Lucy: Well, then Tella is it's nickname.
Jonah's been getting into a teensy bit of trouble due to his lack of self control around the Christmas tree. So we just keep moving ornaments up out of his reach. Now, he's joining in by bringing me ornaments and telling me to "put dis up I no reach mama"
Lucy is really into similes and comparisons these days. Here are some favorites from the last few days:
Me: Stay back while I pour the toffee. If it touches you, it will burn.
Lucy: Will it hurt? How much?
Me: A lot
Lucy: It will hurt like a snake bite would hurt.
Lucy: I love being snuggled up close to you. Very close to you. Close to you like a puppy is close to its leash.
Lucy: Do you love me?
Me: Yes
Lucy: A lot? As much as (pausing then pointing to a friend's popcorn ceiling) all those bumps on the ceiling?
We're reading from Genesis to Jesus' birth in The Jesus Storybook bible for our advent devotionals each night. Getting Jonah to sit and listen is a bit like herding cats but we still try. But the night we did the story of Jonah, he was quite attentive. When we got to the page with the picture of the Jonah falling into the water next to the fish he shouted "Oh no, its gonna get me!" and then when Craig turned the page, he pushed Lucy out of the way "let me see me, I need to see me!"
While reading "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
Jonah: I don't like that guy, he angry. (Repeat on every single page until the last one!)
Me: Okay, mimi all done for now
Jonah: Little bit more?
Me: No, all done, maybe later
Jonah: (Hits his own arm) Oww, I hut (hurt) my arm. I need mimi. I need mimi to feel better. I hut my arm!
Jonah in bed, not sleeping, holds up his foot: One daddy toe, one baby toe, two baby toe, eight baby toe, seven baby toe, no, no, no. One daddy toe, one baby toe, two baby toe, six baby toe, no, no no...
Craig: Where did your clothes go?! Why are you naked?
Jonah: I took off my undies
Craig: Why did you do that?
Jonah: I wanted to be nakey!
Perfectly logical toddler reasoning.
The things they say
After listening to Where The Wild Things Are for the 100th time, Lucy turns to me and says "Mom, I think Max must have been dreaming all those things"
Stolen from Craig's fb page:
Me: ♪"This is what it sounds like when doves cry."♪
Lucy: "Animals can't cry, they have all their legs on the ground so they can't wipe their tears."
Lucy: What flavor is this lollipop mom?
Me: well, the wrapper doesn't say so you'll just have to try it and find out.
Lucy: Hmm, it tastes like sugar. No, it takes like Manna!
Jonah: Lull-bye, Lull-bye. Peas!
Me: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little...
Jonah: No, no no nursery rhyme. Lull-bye!
Lucy: Mom, can I do some art with my royal pastels
Me: You mean your oil pastels?
Lucy: No, Royal pastels. I'm a princess so they are Royal Pastels.
Jonah, while eat his dinner of salmon: I la you sam-on! Takes a bit and picks up another. I la you sam-on...
Lucy: I love you as much as the stars in the sky.
Me: I love you as much as the number of books in the library
Lucy: I love you as much as God loves me...and that's a lot.
Lucy, singing a song she learned at her bug class: Head, thorax, abdomen, abdomen. Head, thorax, abdomen, abdomen. Compound eyes, two antennae and 6 legs. Head, shoulders, I mean thorax, abdomen. Mom, I keep singing shoulders because it reminds me of that other song. It's very similar to that one. Actually, very very similar to that other song. Did you ever notice that?
Lucy: There are two couples in the backyard right now. You and daddy and me and Jonah. I'm going to marry Jonah.
Me: Well, brothers and sisters aren't allowed to get married.
Lucy: But I love him.
Me: I'm so glad you love him and he will always be your brother, but its against the law for you to marry.
Lucy: Is it dangerous?
Me: Kinda...
Me: Lucy, go call daddy. It's almost time for dinner.
Lucy: Finally, my dream come true! (I promise I feed her on a regular basis)
7.17.2014
The things they say
Lucy, frustrated that her duplo isn't working: Here mom, you try it.
Me: Oh, you're right, this one is really tight, I'm not sure why.
Lucy: I think it's been corrupted.
Lucy: Here is some pretend bread. Don't worry, I made it gluten free for you.
Lucy must have inherited Craig's love of re-invention song lyrics. She was playing with glitter glue when I heard her singing "When we glue, something new, let's talk about what we'll glue" (which is a spin of this Daniel Tiger song)
Craig comes home to two wildly silly kids and asks "Are you guys being silly?"
Lucy: Yes. Mama thought she was giving me a probiotic but she really gave me a silly pill.
I read the kids their naps stories and told Jonah to climb into bed while I tucked Lucy in. A few minutes later I heard him talking to himself "Mama la (loves) you, dada la you, noona la you, chickie la you..."
Jonah's getting very independent these days so to preempt tantrums I'm often asking him if he wants help or wants to do it himself. His response? "Me Jojo I!" Because you might not understand the first or second time I guess.
Since everyone else takes turns saying prayers in our house, he seems to think its time he gets in on the rotation. Last night it was "Jojo pray" so we said okay and bowed our heads "Da gah (pause) ah - may!" Short and sweet, just how I like them ;-)
Oh these kids, they are driving me crazy this week but I do love them so.
The things they say - Vacation edition
On our drive we same the most gorgeous rainbow I have ever seen. It was a double rainbow that stretched across the whole sky. I'm not sure if I have ever seen both ends of the same rainbow until that one. When the sun finally set, Lucy looked up and said "Hey, my rainbow! It's gone. It died!" I had previously explained how the water spreads the color to make a rainbow so I tried explaining that without the sun, you couldn't see the rainbow. Apparently the science was lost of her because her very matter of fact response was simple "Nope, it's dead."
At our stop over at Craig's sisters house, Lucy noticed a picture of her and Jonah. "Mom" she yelled, "Those are your kids!"
The last hour of our trip:
Lucy: 1,2,3,4. I don't want to drive any more! Repeat ~20X
Me: Lucy, that was a fun poem you came up with but let's stop now.
Lucy: Okay. Pause. 1,2,3,4,5, I don't want to drive drive drive.
Walking towards the beach for the first time...
Jonah: Beach! Beach! Beach
Upon seeing beach: Back! Back! Back!
And even walking back to our towels wasn't enough, he wanted to be back at the cottage. Luckily, I distracted him by pointing out some shells and inching us back to the towels. Then he saw Craig and Lucy playing and got closer, but anytime the water came near him that first day, it was "Back! Back!"
Lucy, after burying me in the sand: There, you have to stay there forever
Me: Forever!
Lucy: Yep, till you're dead.
Me: Oh no.
Lucy: You can't sleep. You can't eat. You can't do anything until its time to go to heaven.
Seeing as how both kids refused to go in or even close to the waves and water, I was a little surprised when as we were packing up to go home for lunch and naps, Lucy starts sighing and says "Oh, what if the water misses us! That will be so sad"
Jonah: Bee, Bee, Bee! (It was a fly. He calls any bug he doesn't know the name of a bee)
Lucy: Jonah, what is your favorite thing?
Jonah: Uhh, wa-bah (water bottle)
Lucy: No. What is your favorite animal?
Jonah: Uhh, baby go (goat).
Lucy: No. What is your favorite animal that flies?!
Jonah: Uhh, bee!
Lucy: That's what I knew you were going to say.
2.26.2014
The things they say
Lucy: Chelsea, Chelsea!
Craig: Who's Chelsea?
Lucy: I'm calling Jonah Chelsea right now! Chelsea? He's not coming!
MacKenzie: Well, he doesn't know you want his name to be Chelsea right now.
Lucy: Oh, but I do. Chelsea!
MacKenzie: Checking in on her and Jonah playing: Whatcha doing?
Lucy: Dancing for Joy and speaking Spanish words.
MacKenzie: Carry on then.
Lucy: Look at my beautiful Valentine.
MacKenzie: Oh, did you make it for a friend?
Lucy: Well, I did but it's too pretty to give away. I'll keep it.
MacKenzie: You could make another one to give away.
Lucy: Okay
a few minutes later...
Lucy: Look mama!
MacKenzie: Oh, who is that one for?
Lucy: Me. It's too pretty to give away.
MacKenzie: But you are supposed to make valentine's to give to people you love.
Lucy: But I love myself! This one is for me too!
Jonah has two jackets, one of which is an Texas A&M jacket. We got him to say aggie a while back and I guess we always had him repeat it when he put his jacket on because now he calls both of his jackets "aggie." If we are going outside, he runs over to the closet and says "Aggie! Aggie." And that, my friends, is how you do parenting right!
Lucy still has trouble saying her name, L's are one of the hardest letters for small children to pronounce so it's more like "you-cee." So I thought I'd help Jonah out and started refering to her as Noona. Success. Jonah now says mama, dada, and noo-noo.
Lucy has very few wrong words or phrases these days which makes me a bit sad. Two that remain - her dress up high heels are called "step shoes" and she calls my weights, "muscles."
Speaking of "muscles," both kids love to exercise with me so as soon as I move the coffee table and Jonah knows what is happening so he starts doing a sign he made up for exercise and then runs over to the pantry so Lucy can get him cans to use for his own weights.
Don't ever say the words "furry happy or monster" around Jonah without planning on letting him watch this video or you will have a tantruming toddler on your hands. He LOVES this song. He actually loves most music and will "sing" along when we sing or even if I just try and sit down at the piano.
Lucy: May I have some milk it my oatmeal. It's too hot.
Me: Yes, but you can't get upset if it ends up too liquidy. Remember how that happened last time?
Lucy: I won't, Mom, it will be insignificant!
Lucy has been really interested in opposites lately, all because of a story about an "opposite man" who brings trials on a little boy by making the opposite of what he wants happen (spills his milk on the ceiling, etc). We were driving to church one day when she saw a smiley face painted on a rock and said it looked like the opposite man so she needed to say some opposites like "I love Sunday School!" and "I will be wild at Sunday School"
For the record, she doesn't hate Sunday School, she just prefers not being around other children if at all possible. But it is true that she isn't wild there, I think her favorite part is when it is time to clean up the toys and games and sit still and listen.
