Intervention

I've been hearing rumors lately of a problem so awful it is hard to even talk about. But Big Mama has finally brought it into the light and I too feel compelled to address it. The perpetrator - the snuggie/slanket. I would say it is even worse than the smitten and you know things have gone too far when even Beth Moore has sucummed to such a fashion flop.

And it isn't just a problem for celebrities, it has affected me on a personal level too. So this is an intervention for a certain family member, who shall remain nameless. I want him/her to know that they need not be ashamed, others have also fallen for it's allure too, but just put it down and it will be all be okay.

  1. I don't get why everybody keeps ragging on the slanket. I don't have one, but I would like one. When I'm sitting in my Wisconsin living room, already wearing a sweater and two pairs of socks, and I still need a blanket, it would be really nice if I could still use my arms. What's the problem?

  2. I agree. It's really not a fashion issue, because people wear it at home. I wear whatever I want at home. And I think it's cool to look like a monk.

  3. yeah, if i saw someone walking down the street wearing a snuggie, I'd laugh at them. However, if worn indoors as intended it's a nice idea. Unlike the smitten where if you come across a pole and you can't walk around it together for some reason, you'd break your arms. Snuggie doesn't cause harm, it prevents it.

  4. The slanket is what kept Ben and I warm on those below freezing days in Kentucky when the power was out! I am so glad he asked for it for Christmas and I thought to get two.

  5. Okay, maybe for ice storms and power outages it is okay, but so is eating direcly out of a can and I would do that on a normal day. I stand by my original statement.

First off, they don't really work any better than a blanket. Have you even been lying on the couch thinking, "I really want to grab the remote but I can't find a way to wrap my arm in the blanket and it will get too cold in the next 30 seconds so I will just continue to watch this station?" I am a cold natured person but I have never had a problem knitting with a blanket tucked up under my arms. And if you have truly experienced that, you could save $29.99 and just wear your robe backwards, it's the same thing.

And while the tv ad definitely shows people wearing them at sporting events out in public, perhaps these people are only wearing them in their own houses.
The same can be said for mumus. Yet, if I knew a friend/family member under the age 70 who wore them, even only around their house, I would also stage an intervention.

But since Craig has adamantly argued that it doesn't matter what anyone wears in their own house, I guess once I am a stay at home mom I will just wear sweats every day and never wear makeup or fix my hair. I can't wait!

  6. If you turn your robe backwards you look like a dufus! But the slanket has patent pending technology to prevent you looking like a dufus. :) And a nice blanket would cost about the same, but you don't get sleeves. The sleeves are the thing!

  7. Saying a slanket is stupid just because you could just dig your arm out of a regular blanket to use the remote is like saying the remote itself is stupid because you could just get up and change the channel. It's a tool for avoiding a minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience none the less.

Also, the last football game I went to was pretty cold. If I had brought a blanket, I would have enjoyed myself at least 20% more. If I had had a blanket with sleeves, I would have been warmer and I could still have held a hot chocolate or perhaps clapped at good plays, meaning I would have enjoyed myself at least 30% more.

  8. Rachel, what she said! And, you can have my slanket when you remove it from my warm, dead hands!

  9. Why is there no mention of the Snuggie on here? Is everything partial to the slanket alone?

Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about over the snuggie or the slanket. Save money and use your own blanket that you already have. Wrap it around you and let your arms stick out.

  10. I will have you notice that Rachel admitted she would wear it out in public - that is when it becomes a fashion issue.

  11. A blanket isn't something you wear, it is a blanket. Also, if you just stick your arms out of a regular blanket, then the blanket isn't warming your arms or your clavicle area.

  12. But it isn't a blanket, it is a slanket. The fact that it has sleeves makes it an article of clothing and therefor leaves it open to fashion ridicule.
