Ski Trip

As MacKenzie indicated, I was gone on a business trip this week. I went to Crested Butte, which is a Colorado resort for which we are doing an Environmental Assessment. They put us up at the Grand Lodge, which was quite nice. We spent two days driving to/from the resort, and two days looking at project sites on the mountain.

One thing I noticed is that CB has gone for the whole green thing:
Crested Butte Mountain Resort is offsetting 100% of our energy usage with wind power credits. All of the energy use from the lifts, lodges, restaurants, and offices totals to 8000 megawatts, or the energy consumption of 22 average homes for a whole year, which the wind power credits will offset.
So the resort buys wind power from somewhere else to pay for its enviro-sins. But they obviously don't use this power. Does that mean that the company that sold CB the wind credits can sell the same wind power to someone else, who does use it? Coyote Blog thinks so, and it sounds like a scam to me. I, for one, am not impressed by Crested Butte's actions.
